Northcote 'Dirty Cigarettes' (Beach Slang cover) on Exclaim! TV
Though former Means band member Matthew Daniel Goud's roots are in post-hardcore Christian rock, he's developed a distinct sound of his own through his solo project, Northcote. The Victoria-based artist draws comparisons to Bruce Springsteen and Peter Gabriel with his blend of folk-rock vocals and punk spirit, boasting both collaborative releases and three full-length LPs. This month, Northcote will be taking his discography on a cross-Canada tour for the first time since 2013.

Back in November, Exclaim! TV caught up with the singer-songwriter to capture a special performance. With an already stylistically varied career, Northcote took on a Beach Slang cut, offering up a bare bones cover of punk track "Dirty Cigarettes." The performance finds his soothing voice pairing effortlessly with gentle melodic acoustic guitar strums.

Watch the warm and fuzzy performance in the player below, and check out the live experience for yourself on his upcoming tour.
