Nick Oliveri Is Reviving Mondo Generator for Two New Albums
The Kyuss / Queens of the Stone Age offshoot will release 'Fuck It' and the long-lost 'Shooters Bible' with Dave Grohl in 2020
Published Dec 18, 2019Known for being part of stoner-rock royalty Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age, Nick Oliveri is bringing back his Mondo Generator project. And it's not just for one album but two.
The band — made up of Oliveri, guitarist Mike Pygmie and drummer Mike Amster — will release a new studio album called Fuck It on February 21, as well as their long-lost album Shooters Bible on February 28. Both arrive on vinyl and CD via Heavy Psych Sounds.
Fuck it marks the first Mondo Generator album in eight years, following up on 2012's Hell Comes to Your Heart. It was recorded at Josh Homme's Pink Duck studio and engineered and mixed by Ian Watt.
A press release offers the following of Fuck It:
A mixture of speed rock, american punk and hardcore with the typical Oliveri style. You can hear the old school roots of Black Flag and Dead Kennedys with a pinch of heavy rock and sometimes shades of stoner. You can feel the dust and the sand of the Californian desert mixed with the rotten smell of a dirty basement used as venue! The songwriting is never ordinary and keeps the listener alive for the duration of the entire album. The vocal melodies are always interesting and give the music its trademark sound. You can definitely hear the punk attitude of QOTSA band with whom Nick played for long time.
As for Shooters Bible, the album was recorded in 2010 but never released. In addition to a long string of Oliveri originals, the album features a cover of "Dog Food" by Iggy Pop with none other than Nirvana/Foo Fighters hero Dave Grohl on drums.
The press release says of Shooters Bible, "The vocals are ripped as usual, some songs are screamed but yet others feature melodic lines. The album has a punk-stoner sound with a desert rock attitude."
For a taste of Fuck It, you can stream the track "When Death Comes" below, where you'll also find "Dead Silence" from Shooters Bible.
