Dolly Parton Has an Unreleased Song Locked in a Time Capsule at Dollywood
Dolly Parton has locked an unreleased song inside a chestnut wood time capsule at Dollywood. The mystery tune won't be heard until 2045.

As told in her recent book, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics, the country legend's mystery song won't see the light of day until the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Dollywood DreamMore resort in Pigeon Forge, TN, which first began operations in 2015.

"It would be a song that will never be heard until 30 years from the time we opened the resort," she explained. "They said, 'You'll be long dead.' I said, 'Well, maybe not. I'll be 99. I've seen people live to be older than that.'"

She continued: "That's like burying one of my kids, putting it on ice or something, and I won't be around to see it brought back to life. It's just burning me up inside that I have to leave it in there. Anyway, it's kind of weird or strange that they would ask me to write this mystery song. I don't know if I want to live to be 100 or not. But you never know. I might, and if I do, I'm going to be at that opening."

Songteller: My Life in Lyrics — a "visual memoir and annotated songbook" covering over 60 years of Parton's songwriting— was released in November 2020 via Chronicle Books.

Last month, the country icon shared A Holly Dolly Christmas, a 12-track album with five duets featuring Willie Nelson, Miley Cyrus, Michael Bublé, Billy Ray Cyrus and Jimmy Fallon. The record was released prior to Parton's Netflix special Christmas on the Square.
