A New Zealand Mom Named Her Kids Metallica, Pantera and Slayer
"It's not easy raising three of the heaviest bands"
Published Jul 08, 2021Picking baby names is no easy feat, but sometimes it's best not to overthink the whole thing. After all, you could simply name your kids after your favourite bands, just like this New Zealand mother did in choosing the names Metallica, Pantera and Slayer.
The reveal comes from New Zealand journalist/actor David Farrier, who broke the pretty wild news in his newsletter this week. According to Farrier, he's actually seen the kids' birth certificates, as well as spoken to the mother.
Adding a sweet, little cherry on top, the kid named Metallica also apparently has the middle name "...And Justice for All."
Sure, this whole thing could be some goofy online joke, but if it is, it's a pretty good one. After all, Farrier even went as far as reportedly talking to New Zealand Registrar-General Jeff Montgomery, who explained "there are no restrictions on naming babies after bands or albums, as long as the word used is not generally considered to be offensive or does not resemble an official rank or title."
Farrier followed up his newsletter post with a Twitter thread about the whole thing, and you can find that below. And of course, get those horns up.
thread 2/4: i become a bit suspicious when she also included @metallica's best album "...and justice for all" in her kid's name too, but new zealand's registrar-general seems to confirm it's a real thing: pic.twitter.com/1jOy5AUWxT— David Farrier (@davidfarrier) July 7, 2021
