Ahead of the TIFF premiere of LIDO TV on September 11, showrunner Lido Pimienta has shared a new trailer for the variety show — and has announced a performance with some special guests.

Shot on location in Colombia, the new trailer reveals more of the show's star appearances, including Kittie, Shad and Bear Witness of the Halluci Nation, as well as the previously announced Nelly Furtado. The new trailer builds on the previous sneak peek of LIDO TV, combining sketch comedy with puppetry to tackle issues like colonialism, feminism, privilege and hate.

"What started as an artistic project during the pandemic has grown into something so much more," said Pimienta in a press release. "This is a love letter to a little girl sitting on the branch of a mango tree in Colombia, singing at the top of her lungs while other kids made fun of her for being weird. I'm so grateful to our cast and crew for bringing their talent to every scene, sketch and performance, and I can't wait for the world to see what we've created."

Sean O'Neill, founder of Visitor Media and co-showrunner and executive producer of LIDO TV, added in a statement: "Lido Pimienta is the definition of a visionary, and it's been a thrill to work by her side to bring her ideas to the screen with the help of so many talented people. There couldn't be a better project to launch our company with, and I'll be grateful to Lido for the opportunity to collaborate on this wild and sincere project, for eternity."

Following the show's premiere, Pimienta will perform with some special guests — including Bear Witness — at TIFF's Festival Street. For those who can't make it to the premiere, LIDO TV will be available to view for free on CBC Gem after the festival on September 23.
